I was so honored to learn more about Sea Spray Tan with Tessa, the owner and operated (and artist). We were able grab some time at the beautiful Blanca Bay on Brawley to talk about the amazing people in Lake Norman, the custom white glove experience she aims to provide, and the joy it brings to her to build a relationship with her clients.
What’s your favorite thing about Lake Norman?
So I’ve lived in the Lake Norman area for about 14 years now and absolutely love it. What I have seen is Lake Norman has an amazing population of good people. It’s a community here and everybody from all over the world comes here and that’s what I love, the people in this area.
Why did you start Sea Spray Tan?
Just a little bit of history, I love having a beautiful shade when springtime hits summertime and we always worry about Sun damage and the UV; so when I started getting tanned I felt that it was mediocre. I thought there has to be a better way and so I started doing my research and I started looking at different products looking at different Certifications and I thought wow I could really do this. This is like sorry to fuel my passion and then the research that I was doing from products and techniques and so I evolved spray tan and launched my business earlier this year and what it’s about it’s about a custom spray tan.
What is different about your spray tan business?

Part of it is a feeling; the biggest takeaway that I want people to feel is what I felt the first time I sprayed with these products. I wasn’t sticky, have a smell, or have to walk around not touching anything and there was no stain on my clothes. The first time, I was like wow.
Then I thought from an experience perspective in that feeling what could I give my clients? I wanted to give them a white glove experience when they go through this process. Oftentimes we get our nails done or we get our eyebrows done and it seems less interactive and less engaging; that’s not what I do. I like to engage with people. I like to follow up with my customers and learn their stories and build a relationship with them.
When should someone typically get a spray tan?
Anyone can get a spray tan at any time for no reason or to have a shade of beautiful color before any event or it could just be springtime and you don’t wanna sit in the sun to get that tan or it could be your wedding.
How are you able to offer spray tans so well priced?
I will say part of my research and market research that goes into. I’m a mom of three and I know things are expensive. The company that I go through for my product is a direct source so my cost can stay very fairly medium and then I do it out of my home in a great location in Huntersville, NC in my little boutique. Also, I am keeping to the lake Norman bubble so I’m not driving all over so I’m able to keep my costs competitive within the market. I’m not the type of person that is going to dollar sign you for every little extra thing; so I give you the A-to-Z experience for the same price.
Will you spray tan me at my house?
There’s a comfort of knowing you don’t have to drive anywhere and if you’re new to the area or you’re visiting the area or you even have a few kids at home and you can’t really leave. I come to your home and I set up and I make sure that I leave it exactly the way that I came into it. The other piece is that I want everybody to feel comfortable and a lot of the time it is in your own space. It’s very convenient and it’s all the same experience that you would feel in my in-home studio.
What’s the best way for someone to book a spray tan with you?
I’m an oldie but a goodie so the best way is my website. It has all my client intake forms and has all the information before aftercare and my booking system. There’s a link that says Book Now or you can call or text me.
